Description
Female: (n = 6) Body fusiform, 295 long, 80 wide, 70 thick; light yellow in color. Gnathosoma 45, projecting downwards. Prodorsal shield 25 long, 45 wide; prodorsal shield without frontal lobe; median, admedian and submedian lines present. Dorsal tubercles near rear margin, 20 apart, scapular setae (sc) 18 projecting forwards. Sternal line present. Coxal area with granules; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 10, proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 20, proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 35. Legs I 34 long, femur 12, basiventral femoral setae (bv) 11; genu 5 long, antaxial genual setae (l'') 30 long; tibia 5, paraxial tibial setae (l') 10, setae located at center; tarsus 8 long; tarsal empodium simple, 6rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Legs II 30 long, femur 10, basiventral femoral setae (bv) 10; genu 5 long, antaxial genual setae (l'') 10 long; tibia 5; tarsus 8 long; tarsal empodium simple, 6rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Opisthosoma dorsally with about 66 microtuberculate annuli, ventrally with about 94 microtuberculate annuli. Setae c2 10 on ventral annulus 18; setae d 50 on ventral annulus 34; setae e 30 on ventral annulus 56; setae f 35 on 9th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 absent. Female genitalia 17 long, 25 wide, coverflap smooth, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 13 long.
Male: (n = 1) 250 long, 75 wide; genitalia 7 long, 20 wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 11 long.
Types: Holotype female, China: Shannxi Province, Zhouzhi county. August 22, 2004, from Broussonetia papyrifera (L.) Vent.( Moraceae ), coll. Xue XiaoFeng. Paratypes, 5 females and 1 male, with the same data as holotype.
Relation to host: Vagrant on leaf surface.
Etymology: The species designation is derived from the host species, papyrifera .
Remarks: This species is similar to Rhyncaphytoptus celtis Kuang & Hong, 1991 , but can be differentiated by the shield design with median and admedian lines separate, coxal area with granules and setae h1 absent.
