Material examined. – 3 females (2 ovigerous), CN SSIVB-7, Nansha Islands , 6º29.67'N 113º51.04'E, 2830 m, soft mud, AT, 8 May.1987 GoogleMaps ; 1 male, CN 2 , Nansha Islands , 6º05.25'N 113º00.31'E, 1655 m, mud, AT, 30 Jul.1988 GoogleMaps .
Distribution. – Probably occurs in all major tropical and temperate seas, from the surface to a mid-water depth of 3600 meters ( Chace, 1985): western and eastern Atlantic, Indian Ocean from off Natal to Australia, Tasman Sea, Pacific from the Philippines, Indonesia, Banda Sea, Hawaii to Alaska.
Remarks. – As this species is a pelagic shrimp, it is possible that the present specimens were trapped when the trawl was retrieved and brought to the surface. Not previously reported from the South China Sea.
