Poloniphora lawrencei View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 4–5 View FIGURES 4 – 5 )

It is immediately distinguished from P. surstylua Disney & Michailovskaya by the details of the hypopygium, especially in lacking the long narrow processes from the rear of the epandrium. Its hypopygium more closely resembles that of P. bialoviensis Disney , but differs in details such as the latter having the end hairs of the anal tube being distinctly longer and more robust than the rest of its hairs and the penis complex differs. In addition its costal index exceeds 0.46, but is less than 0.45 in the new species.

Male. Frons brown, with about two dozen hairs and dense but fine microtrichia. With 2-4-4-4 bristles, the antials and pre-ocellars are both widely separated and closer to the anterolaterals and mediolaterals respectively. Postpedicels brown, but not dark, and lacking subcutaneaous pit sensilla. Arista apical. Palps light greyish brown and with a long apical and pre-apical bristle, 3–4 smaller ones and as many hairs; and at most two fifths as wide as a postpedicel. The pale yellow labrum is about two thirds as wide as a postpedicel. Labella pale with only a few hairs below but several pale teeth on their inner margins. Thorax brown. Mesopleuron bare. Notopleuron with three bristles. With four scutellar bristles, the anterior pair being weaker. Abdominal tergites brown with small hairs mainly near rear margins on T1-T4, but with longer hairs at rear margins of T5 and T6. Venter grey with hairs on segments 5 and 6. Hypopygium as Figs 4–5 View FIGURES 4 – 5 , the anal tube being only lightly tinged brown and the rest mainly brown. Legs light brown with more yellowish tarsi. Front tarsus with a posterodorsal hair palisade on segments 1–4. Hairs below basal half of hind femur not differentiated from those of adjacent anterior face, and therefore shorter than those of anteroventral row in outer half. Wing 0.85 mm long. Costal index 0.43–0.44. Costal ratios 0.47: 1. Costal cilia (of section 2) 0.05 mm long. Vein Sc not reaching vein 1. Tip of vein 3 overreaches end of costa. Thick veins brownish grey. Veins 4–6 grey and 7 pale. With a single bristle, which is longer than the costal cilia, on the axillary ridge. Membrane very lightly tinged grey. Haltere brown.

Material. Holotype male, Indonesia, Sulawesi Utara, Dumoga Bone National Park, Toraut Forest, Malaise trap, 29–30 January 1985, R. H. L. Disney (University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology, 16–22).
