Type species: Columbiphilus khushalkhani Kivganov and Sharafat, 1995 View in CoL , by original designation.

Diagnosis. FEMALE. Hypostomal apex variable in shape. Peritremes V-shaped. Setae vi situated anterior to level of setae ve. Propodonotal shield divided into 2 wide lateral shields, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si and se, unpaired medial shield present or absent. Opisthonotal and genital lobes absent. Bases of setae 1a coalesced. Pseudanal setal series represented by 2 pairs. Genital series with 1 pair of setae. Apodemes I without thorn-like protuberances. Legs with full complement of solenidia. Physogastric form with distinctly enlarged idiosoma , variable in shape.

MALE. Features as in females except: propodonotal shield entire or divided into 3 sclerites; genital setal series represented by 2 pairs.

Species included. Four species: C. alectoris ( Fain et al., 2000) , C. khushalkhani Kivganov and Sharafat, 1995 , C. odontophoridus Skoracki and Sikora, 2011 , and C. pteroclesi ( Skoracki and OConnor, 2010).

Host range. Galliformes : Numididae , Phasianidae , Odontophoridae .

Pteroclidiformes : Pteroclididae .

Distribution. Afrotropical ( South Africa, Rwanda and undefined precisely localities in Central and Eastern Africa), Nearctic ( USA), Neotropical ( Colombia, Surinam), Oriental ( India), Palaearctic ( Afghanistan, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland), Saharo-Arabian ( Egypt), and Sino-Jappanese ( Japan) regions.
