Picobia lonchura View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 40 View FIGURE 40 and 41 View FIGURE 41 )
Description. FEMALE PF (holotype and 1 paratype). Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex rounded. Infracapitulum apunctate. Movable cheliceral digit edentate on proximal end. Each medial branch of peritremes with 5–6 chambers, each lateral branch with 6 striated chambers. Stylophore punctate. Idiosoma . Two narrow, punctate, sabre-like propodonotal shield bearing setae ve and si, medial shield absent. Setae vi situated posterior to level of setae ve. Setae c1 situated slightly anterior to level of setae se. Setae vi, ve and si strongly beaded. Pygidial shield well developed, with vertical furrow, double-leaf, covered with minute punctuations on whole surface. Setae ag2 situated posterior to ag1. Large, punctate genital plate bearing setae ag1–2. Genital setae short, needle-like, situated on sharp-ended genital lobes. Coxal fields I–II sparsely punctate, III–IV densely punctate. Legs. Claws of legs III and IV equal in size. Solenidia σ on genua I blunt-ended. Measurements. Total body length 1,220 (2,030). Length of stylophore 330 (350). Lengths of setae: vi 165, ve (165), si 170 (190), se 285, c1 300 (325), c2 285 (295), d1 320 (295), d2 300 (300), e2 310 (315), f1 40 (30), f2 90 (80), h1 25 (20), h2 460, ag1 255 (235), ag2 (90), ag3 265 (255), g1 15 (15), ps1 12 (12), ps2 15 (12–15). Length ratios of setae: vi:ve:si 1:1:1, d2: e2 1:1, f1: f2 1:2.3, f1: h1 1.5–1.6:1, f2: h2 5:1, h1: h2 1:18.4, ag1:ag2:ag3 2.6:1:2.8, g1: ps1: ps2 1:1:1.
MALE (1 paratype). Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex rounded. Each medial branch of peritremes with 5–6 chambers, each lateral branch with 8 striated chambers. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield entire, shirt-like, punctate. Setae vi situated slightly posterior to level of setae ve. Setae c1 situated anterior to level of setae se. Setae vi, ve and si lightly beaded. Hysteronotal shield deeply concave on anterior margin, punctate, bearing setae d1 and e2. Pygidial shield punctate. Two oval agenital plates punctate, bearing bases of setae ag1 on posterior margin. Legs. Claws of legs III–IV equal in size. Solenidia σ on genua I blunt-ended. Measurements. Total body length 770. Length of stylophore 150. Lengths of setae: vi 110, ve 105, si 135, se 180, c1 180, c2 160, d1 105, d2 180, e2 35, f2 25, h2 305, ag1 135, ag2 25. Length ratios of setae: vi:ve:si 1:1:1.2, d2: d1: e2 5:3:1, ag1: ag2 5.4:1.
Type material. Female holotype (PF), 1 female (PF) and 1 male paratypes from Lonchura leucogastra (Blyth) ( Passeriformes : Estrildidae ), INDONESIA: Archipelago Java, 1908–1909, coll. Arnim.
Type deposition. All type specimens in AMU .
Differential diagnosis. Picobia lonchura sp. nov. is morphologically most similar to P. hylocichlae Skoracki, Spicer and OConnor, 2014 . In females of both species, the hypostomal apex is rounded; the movable cheliceral digit is edentate on the proximal end; genital setae are short, needle-like and situated on small genital lobes. This new species differs from P. hylocichlae as follow: in females of P. lonchura , the lateral propodonotal shields bears setae ve and si; the medial propodonotal shield is absent; the pygidial shield is subdivided, double-leaf; setae vi, ve and si are strongly beaded; setae ag1 and ag2 are situated in the longitudinal row. In females of P. hylocichlae , the lateral propodonotal shields bears setae ve, si and se; the medial propodonotal shield is present, oval and punctate; the pygidial shield is entire, not subdivided; setae vi, ve and si are lightly beaded; setae ag2 are situated posterolateral to setae ag1.
Etymology. The species name is derived from the generic name of the host— Lonchura leucogastra, and is a noun in apposition.
