Isthmohelea View in CoL :

- Male cercus, moderately slender, elongate, finger-like. The cercus of most other ceratopogonids is either lobe-like or, if more elongate, somewhat flattened mediolaterally. However, the feature is present in Metacanthohelea , where the cercus is significantly more slender than in Isthmohelea .

- Female with a thin bar posterior to opening of the spermathecal duct appearing to be slightly attached laterally to sternite 10. This is a unique feature in the family.
