- Female scutum with distinctive patch of very short sensilla situated in shallow pits between the dorsocentral rows of setae and more or less on the posterior half of the scutum, noted by Delécolle & Schiegg (1998). Males (but perhaps not all) have these sensilla restricted to a patch on the medial margin of the dorsocentral row of setae, along part of the posterior half of the row. Huerta & Borkent (2005) proposed this unique feature as a synapomorphy of the genus and this was supported by Fasbender (2023).
- Female sternite 9 with each half C-shaped and the posterior arm thick. This was discussed by Fasbender (2023: character state 3(1)) as indicative of the monophyly of the genus.
- Fasbender (2023) indicates two other features as indicative of the monophyly of this genus. His character 1(1) is shared with Nannohelea (see character 69) and 9(1) (posterolateral point of aedeagus dorsally directed (at base), is present in some other genera (e.g. some Brachypogon , Ceratopogon ).
