alchemillae Walker, 1852: 1082 , Coccus
Walker (1852) listed this name and cited Bergen (1748). We have seen the book by Bergen who described and quoted the works of Breyn [Breynius], Camer. [Camer epit.], of Réaumur, and especially the species Coccus radicum purpureum Linnaeus as Fn. Suec. 720, all listed by Linnaeus (1758: 456) under Coccus polonicus Linnaeus. See Breyn’s and other works above in Williams (2007). Fernald (1903: 325) listed Coccus alchemillae as unrecognisable. Signoret (1869: 842) listed the species as Porphyrophora ? alchemillae Bergen , and later ( Signoret, 1876a: 384) mentioned this name at the end of the Porphyrophora section. Lindinger (1954: 615) listed Porphyrophora ? alchemillae Sign. in his discussion on the genus Coccionella . Current status: we believe that Bergen discussed the species, which was later described by Linnaeus as Coccus polonicus Linnaeus (now Porphyrophora polonica (Linnaeus) , sufficiently for Walker to validate the name Coccus alchemillae and we here treat the name Coccus alchemillae Walker as a junior synonym of Porphyrophora polonica (Linnaeus) syn. n. (Family Margarodidae ).
