Type Locality: India, Pondicherry and Calcutta.
Vernacular Names: Rufous Horseshoe Bat.

Distribution: Sri Lanka, peninsular India to S Burma and Vietnam. Reports of this species from Cambodia are likely erroneous; see Kock (2000 a).
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: rouxii species group. Includes petersii ; see Sinha (1973). Does not include sinicus ; see Thomas (2000). Reviewed in part by Bates and Harrison (1997) and Horácek et al. (2000); revised by Thomas (2000). Sometimes spelled rouxi (e.g., Horácek et al., 2000; Koopman, 1993).
