Taxonomy. Clenomys pilarensis J. R. Contreras, 1993 View in CoL ,

“Pilar, [Neembucu], Paraguay.”

Using mtDNA, C. pilarensis was classified in the Chacoan and tucumanusspecies groups. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 48 or 50 and FN = 50, and sperm is simple asymmetric. Monotypic.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 189-209 mm (males) and 169-177 mm (females). No specific data are available for body weight. The Pilar Tuco-tuco is mediumsized, but no other details have been published.
