Einzige Gattung in der Familie der Typhaceae ; die Gattungsmerkmale sind in der Familiendiagnose enthalten.
Die Gattung Typha umfaßt etwa 15 Arten, die in den Tropen und gemäβigten Zonen weit verbreitet sind.
Bisher ist aus der Gattung nur die Chromosomenzahl 2n = 30 bekannt.
