Diagnosis: Medium adult-sized Ommastrephidae without photophores; funnel groove without foveola or lateral pockets; tentacles without carpal locking apparatus; tentacle club with manus horny sucker rings smooth or with rounded teeth; eight series of suckers on dactylus; lateral suckers of the paralarva proboscis equal in diameter to the central ones; paralarvae without skin sculpture; adult female without seminal receptacles in the buccal membrane.
