Published records (Hispaniola). St. Domingo: Sharp (1882: 568); without precise locality: Blackwelder (1944: 77), Peck (2005: 44), Perez-Gelabert (2008: 77).

Diagnosis. See Megna & Epler (2012).

Remark. This species was recorded from Hispaniola by Sharp (1882) from Santo Domingo, and from Jamaica by Schaeffer (1908). Both records were subsequently repeated by Blackwelder (1944). However, the latter author was apparently not aware that at the same time, Young (1942) treated Antillean Copelatus of the hydroporoides - group, described several new species from Cuba and Jamaica and restricted the occurrence of C. insolitus to Cuba. Therefore, we consider its presence in Hispaniola as improbable. We were not able to trace any specimens of the hydroporoides -group from the Dominican Republic, but if such exist, they likely represent another, potentially undescribed species.

Distribution. Cuba; occurrence in Jamaica and Hispaniola doubtful.
