Eastern Pacific distribution. Because it was temporarily synonymized (see below), the real distribution of S. pacifica has remained uncertain, but it is known to inhabit tropical and temperate regions of the Oceans ( Zeidler 1998). It has been found in Australian ( Barnard 1931; Zeidler 1998) and in the Atlantic tropical waters ( Thurston 1976; Gasca 2004). This species was collected south of the mouth area of the Gulf of California ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ).
Remarks. Wagler (1926) synonymized S. pacifica with S. tullbergi ( Bovallius, 1885) , but after that it has been recorded and recognized as a valid species by Zeidler (1998) based on the presence of an anterodistal tooth on the anterior margin of article 2 of pereopod 5 ( Zeidler 1998: 20). Scina tullbergi was recognized as one of the most common surface species of Scina in warm waters of all Oceans ( Vinogradov et al. 1996). Confirmed records for S. pacifica are from the southwestern Pacific ( Zeidler 1998). These two species can be distinguished by the presence of a tooth on the anterodistal margin of pereopod 5 basis.
