Karaops yindjibarndi View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 19–20 View FIGURES 15 - 22 , 37 View FIGURE 37 )

Type material. Holotype: male, 6 km N of Millstream, SITE PW11 [21˚32’24.8” S 117˚3’25.2” E, Western Australia, Australia], 15 July 2003 – 11 October 2004, CALM PILBARA SURVEY, ethylene glycol pitfalls (WAM T79405).

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the Yindjibarndi language that is indigenou to the type locality. This name is to be treated as a noun in apposition.

Diagnosis. Males of K. yindjibarndi sp. nov. are most similar to K. larryoo but can be distinguished from this and other species by the following combination of characters: 2 promarginal teeth and 1 retromarginal tooth, two similarly-sized apophyses of the RTA, and a hook-like embolus that bisects the pedipalp, rather than following the perimeter of the cymbium ( Figs 19–20 View FIGURES 15 - 22 ). Females are unknown.

Description. Male (holotype):

Colour. Dorsal shield of prosoma uniformly yellow-brown; sternum pale yellow-brown; chelicerae brown; maxillae pale yellow-brown; labium pale yellow-brown; opisthosoma dorsally yellow-brown with darker markings; ventrally pale yellow-brown; legs yellow-brown, faint annulations present, faded.

Prosoma. 0.82 times longer than broad; clypeus 0.11 high.

Eyes. AER slightly recurved; PER recurved; PME larger than AME, PLE largest, ALE smallest; eye group width 0.98; eye diameters, AME 0.16, ALE 0.07, PME 0.29, PLE 0.18; interdistances AME-ALE 0.23, PME-PLE 0.25, ALE-PLE 0.27, AME-PME 0.03; ocular quadrangle AME-AME 0.16, PME-PME 0.41.

Sternum. 0.77 times longer than broad.

Chelicerae. Promargin with 2 teeth, retromargin with 1 tooth.

Pedipalp ( Figs 19–20 View FIGURES 15 - 22 ). Fm spination d 0–1–2; RTA with 2 similarly-sized apophyses, dorsal apophysis narrows distally to a point, curving ventrally; ventral apophysis narrow, ovate in ventral view, triangular in retrolateral view, rounded distally; cymbium oval; conductor large, pointed at posteriorly directed tip; embolus arising from large, roundish tegular lobe, tapering abruptly, doesn't follow the lateral edge of cymbium but nearly bisects the pedipalp, sickle-shaped, beginning at 6 o'clock, ending at 1 o'clock; MA long, with single pointed process, directed laterally, tapering abruptly, curving anteriorly, truncated tip.

Opisthosoma. Unclear if caudal setal tufts are present, setae are worn off of specimen.

Legs. Leg I only slightly shorter than legs II, III and IV; leg formula 3421; leg III longest; tarsal claws without teeth; spination: leg I, Fm pr 1-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-0-1; Ti d 0, v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg II, Fm pr 0-0-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-0-1; Ti v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg III, Fm pr 0-0-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-1-1; Ti 2-2; Mt v 2 -0; leg IV, Fm pr 0-0-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-1-1; Ti v 2-2; Mt 2-0-0.

Measurements. Total length 4.65. Dorsal shield of prosoma length 2.22, width 2.71. Sternum length 1.04, width 1.34. Opisthosoma length 2.43, width 2.46. Pedipalp: Fm 0.68, Pt 0.38, Ti 0.91, Ta 0.71, (total) 2.68. Leg I: Fm 2.96, Pt 1.05, Ti 2.32, Mt 2.04, Ta 1.13, (total) 9.50. Leg II: Fm 3.37, Pt 1.05, Ti 2.83, Mt 2.43, Ta 1.21, (total) 10.89. Leg III: Fm 3.85, Pt 1.04, Ti 2.86, Mt 2.68, Ta 1.11, (total) 11.54. Leg IV: Fm 3.46, Pt 0.89, Ti 2.61, Mt 2.75, Ta 1.27, (total) 10.98.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality ( Fig. 37 View FIGURE 37 ).

Life history and habitat preferences. Unknown.

Remarks. Specimen appeared dried out and discoloured, likely because of collection in ethylene glycol.
