Altitudinal range. Few actual elevation records, ranging 10–2460 m.

Remarks. The type locality could be in the Rio Magdalena valley WSW of Tocaima, but doubt remains (see remarks under P. (P.) glandiformis ). A specimen labeled as “ Type ” from Dr. Gibbon is in USNM (lot 104909). It has proven difficult to match it with the original illustration in Lea (1838: fig. 99). We found several specimens of this taxon in various museums, under the name of P. coloratus . This species has been reported from Brazil, without a precise locality ( Simone 2006: 149).

There are three places with the name “Marmato” in the GNS gazetteer, in Antioquia, Caldas and Cauca. We refer this to Caldas, given the fact that Pilsbry (1899: 206) cites “Marmato and [...] Salamina,” the latter place being in Caldas. In addition, Marmato in Caldas is the better known place; it lies in the valley of the Cauca river. “ Bolivia ” may refer to one of several populated places with that name in Colombia (see Remarks under P. (P.) glandiformis ), since P. gibbonius is not known with certainty from localities outside of Colombia.
