Diagnosis. Specimens may be distinguished by: male spur with truncated end (Fig. 82), procursus long and narrow (Fig. 86), bifurcate bulb apophysis (Fig. 84), epigynum MEP without ridges (Fig. 87), PEP projection narrow with the dmPEP touching (Fig. 88).

Male: (N=5) Total length: 2.70 ± 0.55; carapace length: 1.13 ± 0.12; carapace width: 1.13 ± 0.17; leg 1: 19.39 ± 3.63 (5.09 ± 0.99 + 0.36 ± 0.05 + 5.70 ± 1.16 + 6.99 ± 1.40 + 1.26 ± 0.13); tibia 2: 3.86± 0.72; tibia 3: 2.90 ± 0.53; tibia 4: 3.90 ± 0.63. 18 leg I tarsal segments; femur1/carapace length: 4.5 ± 0.60; RT at 12.1–14.8%; DT at 6.1–9.2%. Color typical for the genus. Spur large, originating from the proximal portion of the chelicera (Fig. 83), slight mesal curve in dorsal view, end truncate to rounded (Fig. 82). Procursus long, narrow, distal area with a dorsal step, end square (Fig. 86). The bulb apophysis tip is bifurcate, with the prolateral tip curving beyond the retrolateral tip to a point. The retrolateral tip extending half as far as the prolateral, enclosed in the retrolateral tab (Figs. 84, 85).

Female: (N=5) Total length: 2.86 ± 0.24; carapace length: 1.07 ± 0.09; carapace width: 1.09± 0.11; leg 1: 15.19 ± 2.42 (4.06 ± 0.70 + 0.37 ± 0.09 + 4.54± 0.77 + 5.16 ± 0.88 + 1.06 ± 0.13); tibia 2: 3.05 ± 0.55; tibia 3: 2.43± 0.39; tibia 4: 3.12 ± 0.54. 17–18 leg I tarsal segments; femur1/carapace length: 3.78 ± 0.37; RT at 12.5–16.3%; DT at 6.2–12.4%. Color typical for the genus. No AEP. MEP rounded in posterior (Fig. 89) and anterior views (Fig. 87), with excised area for PEP projection rounded mesally, with lateral edges straight (Fig. 88). PEP rounded, PEP projection as long as wide or longer, dmPEP touching (Fig. 88). Pore plates drop shaped, with pointed ends converging anteriorly. PEP tubes short, sharply curved to dmPEP (Fig. 89).

Remarks. This species is can be confused with P. pullulus or P. re d e m p t u s in the east and P. u t a h e n s i s in the west. Females of P. imitatus can be separated from P. utahensis by the angular shape of the MEP around the PEP projection, and the dmPEP touching. Males of the two can be separated by the truncated spur. The spurs of P. imitatus , P. pullulus , and P. re d e m p t u s are all of similar shape, males differ in the longer and more narrow procursus. Females can be separated from P. pullulus by the narrow PEP projection and its’ distribution, from P. re d e m p t u s by the narrow projection, its’ large relative size with the carapace being ~ 1 mm or greater, and femur I being about 4 times the length of the carapace. Internal epigynal characteristics also can be used to separate the species (compare Figs. 89 and 136).

Distribution. 98th parallel westward to 112th parallel, north into Montana and south into Western Texas.
