Etymology. The genus name (masculine) combines Brixia (the original name for the genus; named after Saskia Brix by Jóźwiak et al. [2018]) with tanais (a common suffix in Tanaidacea ).
Type species. Brixia aurora Jóźwiak et al., 2018 View in CoL , by original designation.
Species composition. Brixitanais aurora ( Jóźwiak et al., 2018) , Brixitanais borealis ( Jóźwiak et al., 2018) .
Remarks. The morphological definition for this genus was provided by Jóźwiak et al. (2018).
