Euschistus sulcacitus group
Dorsal surface light to dark brown, sometimes anterior portion of humeral angles and lateral area of corium reddish; punctures dark brown, spread uniformly, sparse at pronotal disc, denser and black punctures on head and along anterolateral margin of pronotum. Pale yellow ventrally, with concolorous punctures.
Head: Clypeus slightly longer than mandibular plates, rarely equal in length; clypeus and mandibular plates rounded apically; lateral margins of mandibular plates sinuose. Antennae entirely yellow-brownish or segments I-II yellow-brownish and segments III–V reddish; segment I wider than remaining segments, bearing black spots smaller than the dorsal punctures of head; spots becoming smaller or absent on segments II–III, segments IV and V immaculate. Anterior portion of bucculae projected ventrally, forming a small tooth apically; bucculae tapering posteriorly. Apex of rostrum reaching from metacoxae to anterior margin of abdomen.
Thorax: At least the anterior 2/3 of anterolateral margins of pronotum toothed, teeth black or light brown. Humeral angles projected laterally, shape varying from obtuse to acute, stout, not developed into a sharp spine; cicatrices of pronotum immaculate. Basal angles of scutellum foveate; frena extending about ⅔ the length of scutellum. Mesocorium opaque, exocorium sometimes reddish; membrane of hemelytra translucent, light brown. Thoracic pleura bearing black spots at supracoxal cleft of each pleurite. Metasternum carinate. Evaporatorium concolorous with surrounding pleural surface, impunctate, extending to posterior margin of mesopleuron; on the metapleuron, and no more than halfway from ostiole to metapleural margin laterally; spout peritreme. Legs concolorous with ventral surface; femora and tibiae bearing small dark brown to black dots, each bearing a seta.
Abdomen: Connexivum brown, anterior and posterior margins black, discal area yellow; anterior angle with dark spot ventrally. Spiracles concolorous with abdominal sterna.
Male genitalia: Pygophore rectangular to trapezoidal; genital cup well exposed dorsally; posterolateral angles of pygophore rounded, not produced; ventral rim straight or sinuate mesially; superior layer of ventral rim produced dorsally, U-shaped medially; area between ventral rim and projections of superior layer of ventral rim excavated, setose; dorsal rim concave, projected over segment X mesially, bilobate; superior process of dorsal rim present. Parameres: crown geniculate, bent laterally, broader than stem; apical process rounded to truncate, its outer surface with scale-like microsculptures; median process when present slightly developed; basal process stout, concave, with long sensilla ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 21–26 ). Abdominal segment X convex, rectangular, with transverse grooves basally, setose apically, and posterior third with 1+1 lateral processes. Phalloteca pyriform; posterior margin slightly concave dorsally with a middle tubercle; dorsal processes of phallotheca present, digitiform, bent ventrally, not surpassing the conjunctiva. Vesica process gutter-like. Ductus seminis distalis coiled, longer than phallotheca. Conjunctiva sclerotized apically forming a black spike ( Figs 27–44 View FIGURES 27–41 View FIGURES 42–44 ).
Female genitalia: Gonocoxites VIII convex, sutural margin straight, sutural angle elevated and projected over gonocoxites IX, posterolateral margin expanded and projected over the base of laterotergites IX. Laterotergites IX subtriangular, rounded apically, surpassing or not posterior margin of tergite VIII. In posterior view, posterior margin of gonocoxites VIII concave mesially; posterior margin of laterotergites VIII acute, produced posteriorly; gonocoxites IX wider than long. Ring sclerites elliptical. Anterior region of thickening of vaginal intima rounded; posterior region triangular. Ductus receptaculi proximalis shorter than vesicular area, posterior region dilated or not. Ductus receptaculi distalis dilated adjacent to anterior annular flange. Posterior annular flange wider than anterior annular flange, directed anteriorly. Pars intermedialis cylindrical, sclerotized basally. Capsula seminalis globose, lacking processes.
