Macrobrachium crenulatum (Holthuis, 1950)

Chase and Hobbs (1969) reported this species from St. Croix and Pérez-Reyes et al. (2013) from Puerto Rico. We present the first records of this species from St. Thomas. This species was found in calm pools between riffles in Dorothea, Flamboyan, and Neltjeberg ghuts, from 20 to +200 metres above sea level. During the day M. crenulatum could be found hiding in leaf litter, or under rocks and wood. At night, this species was seen wandering in gravelly and sandy areas. It occurred in low numbers, but generally one to ten per pool, depending on the size of the pool. It tended to stay in shallower water when M. carcinus was nearby. We encountered a juvenile Macrobrachium in the Crown Bay ditch, that was probably this species, but we could not reliably determine it.
