Limonia sp.

Members of this genus in the Limoniidae were common on St. Thomas. They were most abundant in bromeliad phytotelmata at both Mahogany Run and the Etelman Observatory, and in algal mats in ornamental aquatic plant containers at Tillet Gardens. Specimens were also collected from moss clumps in a concrete drainage on the back of the Classroom Administration Building at the University of the Virgin Islands, and from artificial impoundments on Mahogany Run ghut. We were unable to find records of this genus from the Virgin Islands, but several species are reported from Puerto Rico ( Curran 1928 (as Tipulidae ); Gelhaus et al. 1993).
