Previously recorded from Costa Rica (Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Limón, Puntarenas, and San José provinces), Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela (Champion 1898; Torre-Bueno 1906; Esaki 1926b; Hungerford 1939; Kuitert 1942; Hungerford 1944; Matsuda 1961a; Englund et al. 1992; Polhemus & Polhemus 1995; Molano et al. 2005, 2008; Morales & Castro 2010). Potamobates unidentatus is widely distributed throughout Costa Rica and is the species with the greatest number of records in the present work. It is found on the riffles of lotic habitats along the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, up to 1,418 m a.s.l.
