Remarks. Merodon schachti can be separated from other Merodon species by the following combination of characters: antenna brownish orange; flagellum about 1.3 times longer than pedicel; scutum with sparse brownish yellow pile; legs predominantly black, femora orange apically; tibiae orange on nearly basal half and apex; hind femur swollen; hind tibia extended apically; abdomen narrow; tergites 2–3 with a pair of lateral orange maculae; tergites 2–4 with a pair of whitish interrupted pollinose fasciae; male genitalia as in Hurkmans (1993: figure 72). This species was collected in the western parts of Zagros Mountains, near to the border with Iraq. Merodon schachti was described from Turkey by Hurkmans (1993), based on a series of male specimens. The female remains undescribed. The male examined in the present study represents the first record of this species after its original description in 1993.
