This bumblebee species has Euromediterranean distribution. In the Iberian Peninsula, the nominate subspecies of B. vestalis was located in the Pyrenean area in the past, until 1700 m, on Asteraceae , Ericaceae and Fabaceae ( Rasmont 1988, Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez 2004). It is a social parasite on B. terrestris and B. lucorum .
It is not considered threatened at a continental scale, according to Rasmont et al. (2015), who assessed it as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of European Bees, but it has not been found in present campaings in the Pyrenees ( Table 3 View TABLE 3 ).
