Material examined. SRI LANKA. HOLOTYPE 3: “ Ceylon, Centr. Prov., Rangala, Knuckle Mnts., 12 mls ENE Kandy, 11.III.62, Loc. 130”, “Swept above surface of small stream” ( ZMLU).

Diagnosis. Ac biseriate; first flagellomere higher than long; legs entirely dark brown, except trochanters yellowish brown; halter yellow; fore and mid femur with strong ventral setae, longer than diameter of femur; fore tibia swollen and curved apically, with very long and strong ad seta, and small branched setae; fore basitarsus compressed laterally.

Description. Male: Length (holotype): body 1.8 mm, wing 2.0 mm. Head: Frons velvet black, with dense brownish pruinosity; eyes converging below antennae and almost contiguous; palpus black, with a small spine-like apical seta; antenna dark brown, first flagellomere ovate, higher than long; lower postoculars black. Thorax: Mesonotum and scutellum dark metallic green, with dense brownish pruinosity; 5 strong dc; ac biseriate; scutellum with 2 strong marginal setae and 2 small lateral setae; pleura dark brown shining. Legs: Entirely dark brown, but trochanters yellowish brown. Fore leg: coxa with anterior setae; femur with av and pv row of strong setae on entire length, longer than diameter of femur; tibia slightly swollen and curved apically, with 1 strong and very long ad seta at 1/3; with row of small ad setae which are branched apically; with some curved ventral setae, and strong curved apicoventral seta; basitarsus compressed laterally, with small spine-like ventral setulae; tarsomeres 2 and 3 compressed and shortened; tarsomere 5 with 2 strong dorsal setae; relative podomere ratios: 46, 44, 13/7/6 /9/10. Mid leg: coxa with some anterior setae; femur with 1 very small anterior preapical seta, and a ventral row of 6–7 strong setae on basal 2/3, longer than diameter of femur; tibia with 1 strong and long ad seta at 1/3, 1 smaller pd seta at 1/4, and 3 small apical setae; relative podomere ratios: 55, 62, 25/13/10 /7/8. Hind leg: coxa with 1 strong lateral seta; femur with very small anterior preapical seta, and 2 apicoventral setae; tibia with 1 strong sinuous dorsoapical seta, and 1 apical seta ventrally; relative podomere ratios: 62, 67, 17/ 22/13/9 /7. Wing: Hyaline, with grayish tinge; R4+5 and M subparallel; CuAx ratio: 0.75; RMx ratio: 1.7; lower calypter dark brown with fan of dark brown setae; halter yellowish brown. Abdomen: Dark metallic green, with brownish pruinosity; segments 6 and 7 ochreous brown, segment 8 dark brown; hypopygium entirely dark brown. Hypopygium ( Figs. 7 View FIGURE 7 A–B): hypandrium basally broad, with tapering and curved left arm; epandrial lobe ovate, with small apical and long subapical seta; ventral lobe of surstylus triangular, with curved subapical seta; dorsal lobe of surstylus triangular, with small spinelike apical seta and additional small setulae; postgonite narrow, with long dorsal seta; cercus ovate. Female: Unknown.

Etymology. The name refers to the conspicuous setation on fore and mid femur.

Remarks. The reduction of the anterior preapical setae on mid and hind femora in this species is remarkable.
