Myosorex schalleri Heim de Balsac 1966 , C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, 263: 889.

Type Locality: E Dem. Rep. Congo, Itombwe Mtns, Nzombe (Mwenga).

Vernacular Names: Schaller's Mouse Shrew.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.

Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.

Discussion: Provisionally named by Heim de Balsac (1966 b); full description by Heim de Balsac (1967). The type locality was later erroneously shifted to the "Albert N. P." ( Heim de Balsac and Meester, 1977); Nzombe is located in the Itombwe Mtns ( Hutterer, 1986 c).
