( Figs 2, 6 View FIGURES 1–7 , 16–19 View FIGURES 12–23 )

Euconnus (Borneoconnus) eremita Franz, 1992: 903 , figs 51–52.

Type material studied. Holotype [E MALAYSIA]: ♂: three labels ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–7 ): “BORNEO SABAH Mt. / Kinabalu Nat.Pk. / Paka Cave 2995m / 5.V.87 A. Smetana ” [white, printed], “ E. ( Borneoconnus ) / eremita n.sp. / det. H. Franz ” [white, handwritten and printed], “ Holotypus ” [red, handwritten] ( MHNG).

Revised diagnosis. BL> 1.7 mm; antennomere VIII in male about as broad as long, IX less than twice as broad as long and less than twice as broad as antennomere XI, convex dorsally and ventrally; pronotum parallel-sided in posterior half; ventral apical plate of aedeagus subtrapezoidal with straight sides, its apex forming abruptly tapered, large and strongly curved rounded lobe with its apical portion directed distad.

Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–7 ) moderately slender, and moderately convex, BL 1.75 mm; pigmentation uniformly dark brown; vestiture slightly lighter than cuticle.

Head elongate rhomboidal, broadest at eyes, HL 0.33 mm, HW 0.28 mm; vertex and frons confluent, convex; supraantennal tubercles indistinct; eyes small, weakly convex; tempora in dorsal view 3.2 × as long as eyes. Punctures on vertex and frons small and inconspicuous; setae short, moderately dense, suberect; tempora and vertex with long and dense bristles. Antennae short, AnL 0.75 mm; antennomeres I–II each strongly elongate, III–VII each slightly elongate, VIII about as long as broad, IX modified, strongly transverse, asymmetrical, distinctly, but not strongly projecting laterad, convex dorsally and ventrally, entirely setose, X slightly modified, distinctly transverse, asymmetrical, entirely setose; XI slightly narrower and slightly longer than X, nearly symmetrical, indistinctly elongate, with subconical apex.

Pronotum in dorsal view subtrapezoidal, equally broad between base and anterior third, PL 0.45 mm, PW 0.33 mm; anterior margin nearly straight, sides weakly rounded in anterior third, nearly straight and parallel in posterior half, posterior corners obtuse-angled; posterior margin straight at middle and bent anterad at each side in front of humerus; pronotal base with two pairs of very small and shallow pits, area between median pits forming slightly elevated, diffuse longitudinal carina; sublateral carinae weakly marked. Punctures on pronotal disc fine, inconspicuous; setae short, moderately dense, suberect, sides of pronotum with dense, long bristles.

Elytra together suboval and slightly flattened, broadest distinctly in front of middle, EL 0.98 mm, EW 0.68 mm, EI 1.44; basal impressions shallow but distinct, humeral calli well-defined; apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytral disc only slightly more distinct than those on head and pronotum, large and dense but very shallow, with diffuse margins, relatively unremarkable; setae moderately long and dense, suberect.

Legs moderately long and slender; unmodified.

Aedeagus ( Figs. 16–19 View FIGURES 12–23 ) stout, AeL 0.30 mm, median lobe in ventral view with ventral apical plate subtrapezoidal with straight and parallel sides, its apex forming sharply demarcated, elongate, rounded and strongly curved apical lobe shifted to the left and with its tip directed distad; parameral apices slightly exceeding middle of ventral apical plate, each with 3 long and one short apical setae, additionally with 2 subapical setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. E Malaysia, northern Borneo.
