Cheumatopsyche mandrara Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 305–308

This species is similar to C. balaromta , new species from which it is separated by the less convex anterior margins of segment IX; the less constricted phallotheca; the more strongly convex ventral margin of segment X; and the 2 larger setal warts anteriorly on segment X.

Male. Body and wings light brown with brown pubescence; forewing membrane with slightly darker spots at crossveins and at forks. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum brown with 7 lighter coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Each protibiae with 2 spurs. Forewing length 9.5 mm, hind wing length 6.3 mm. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu tangental. Hind wing fork I present.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly, short; tergum shorter than sternum ( Fig. 305); anterior margins of segment IX straight, with posterad curving dorsum; apical lobe on posterolateral margins ellipsoid, located immediately above articulation cavity of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX interrupted near mid-height of segment X; regularly curving spines on dorsocaudal lobes longer than straight spines on apical lobes. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X occupied by pair of welldeveloped setose protuberances. Segment X long with dorsad curving, rounded, elongated apex ( Fig. 305); in dorsal view ( Fig. 306) tongue-shaped, with parallel-sided lateral margins; ventral margin convex. Apicoventral setal lobes fused with segment X along their lengths, except apically; distal parts orienting almost dorsad, with rounded apices ( Fig. 305). Setaless mesocaudal lobe reduced. Dorsal interlobular gap minute, U-shaped. Pair of large setal protuberances present on dorsal basis of segment X ( Fig. 305, 306). Transverse sutures not visible. Longitudinal sutures running parallel with ventral margin of segment X ( Fig. 305). Lateral setose areas forming pair of elevated, rounded warts located dorsally at mid-length of segment X. Coxopodites exceeding apex of segment X; broad at bases in lateral and ventral view ( Fig. 305, 307), before narrowing at one-quarter its length ( Fig. 305); dorsal margins broadening distad; almost straight in ventral view ( Fig. 307). Harpagones with wide bases lateral view ( Fig. 305), uniformly narrowing distad; curving dorsad along their length; in ventral view ( Fig. 307) weakly sigmoid, tapering. Phallothecal phallobase small; horizontal shaft nearly parallel-sided in lateral view; sclerotised endothecal process circular; phallotremal sclerites broadly rounded in lateral view.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: River Mandrara , iii.1954 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: from the name of the type locality.
