Cheumatopsyche amdakaramaya Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 281–284

This species is easily recognized by the presence of extremely narrow tips of the posterodorsad orienting apicoventral setal lobes. Segment X resembles that of C. mahakaya , but the dorsad curving apices of the apicoventral setal lobes in C. amdakaramaya are narrower, the harpagones curving more strongly in lateral and ventral view, and the phallotheca is constricted at mid-length.

Male. Body and wings dark brown with brown pubescence; wings with no spots. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum dark brown with 7 similarly coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Each protibiae with 2 spurs. Forewing length 6.0 mm, hind wing length 4.5 mm. Distance between forewing crossveins m-cu and cu about as long as 1.5 times length of crossvein m-cu. Hind wing fork I present.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; sternum slightly longer than tergum ( Fig. 281); anterior margins of segment IX convex; apical lobe on posterolateral margins triangular, located above articulation cavity of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins complete; spines on dorsum about 2x longer than spines on apical lobes. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X with pair of setose, slightly elevating areas, resembling reduced apicodorsal setal lobes. Segment X with very broad base ( Fig. 281); tapering apicad from mid-length; simple, narrowing in dorsal view ( Fig. 282); ventral margin convex in lateral view ( Fig. 281); apicoventral lobes completely fused with segment X. Setaless mesocaudal lobe completely reduced. Dorsal interlobular gap narrow, deep ( Fig. 282). Paired setal warts present basally on segment X ( Fig. 281, 282). Transverse sutures visible basally on segment X ( Fig. 281). Longitudinal sutures present along ventral margin of segment X, merging with transverse sutures near ventral margin of segment X ( Fig. 281). Setose areas forming pair of elevated and elongated warts located centrally on segment. Coxopodites slender, slightly dilating apicad ( Fig. 281); apices curving mesally in ventral view ( Fig. 283); slightly exceeding apex of segment X. Harpagones forming long, thin filaments curving into semicircle in ventral view ( Fig. 283). Phallothecal phallobase ( Fig. 284) very broad, distal half slender; sclerotised endothecal process circular; phallotremal sclerites large, subquadrangular in lateral view.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Ifanadiana , Ranomafana, xii.1954 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: after its dark colour, dark “amdakaramaya” in Sanscrit.
