Cheumatopsyche ranomafana Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 245–248

This species is similar to C. fahara new species from which it is distinguished by the pair of longer apicoventral setal lobes, that are obliquely directed dorsad and tapering, not rounded; the shallower dorsal interlobular gap on segment X; the narrow apices of the apicoventral setal lobes, not rounded in dorsal view; and the shaft of the phallotheca that is not horizontal, but curving dorsad at its distal one-third.

Male. Body and wings pale brown with brown pubescence; wing unicolorous without any spots or pattern. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum pale brown with 7 similarly coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Each protibiea with 2 spurs. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Forewing length 6.4 mm, hind wing length 4.9 mm. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu forming continuous line. Hind wing fork I absent.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; tergum short, sternum twice as long as tergum ( Fig. 245); anterior margins of segment IX nearly straight, vertical, slightly narrowing dorsally; apical lobe on posterolateral margins forming blunt, short, lobe above base of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX complete, spines on dorsum about twice as long as others, irregularly bent. Intersegmental area between segment IX and segment X stepped. Segment X long with fused, poorly delineated, dorsad curving apicoventral setal lobes ( Fig. 245); in dorsal view ( Fig. 246) fused apicoventral lobes broad, rounded, surrounding narrow dorsal interlobular gap. Lateral interlobular gaps absent. Setaless mesocaudal lobe reduced; apical margin concave, forming base of dorsal interlobular gap. Pair of lateral setose areas elevated into circular warts located centrally on segment X. Transverse sutures not visible. Longitudinal sutures present ( Fig. 245). Coxopodites slender, parallel-sided, except slightly dilating apicad; straight; exceeding apex of segment X. Harpagones ( Fig. 245) almost as wide as coxopodites; parallel-sided, tapering apically; mesal surfaces concave before tip ( Fig. 247). Phallotheca ( Fig. 248) slender, elongated, narrowing towards mid-length, recurving obliquely dorsad from two-thirds its length; sclerotised endothecal process almost circular; phallotremal scler-

ites broad, vertical; vestigial ventral endothecal membranous lobe not visible.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Ifanadiana , Ranomafana, iii.1955 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: from the name of the type locality.
