Cheumatopsyche ekona Oláh & Johanson , new species
Fig. 179–182
This is the only African and the second known Cheumatopsyche species with no protibial spurs. The other species without spurs, C. kraepelini (Ulmer 1905) , is recorded from Java. Some species have a single spur on each protibiae, but the most common spur formula of species in the genus is 244. A diagnistic feature is also the capitate lateral lobes on segment X, which separate this species from similar species, like C. aterrima Marlier 1961 from Congo, and C. unicalcarata Mey 1992 from Kenya. It closely resembles C. unicalcarata Mey 1992 , but the apicolateral lobe on the posterior margins of segment IX is shallowly quadrangular, not triangular; the phallotheca narrows immediately before apex, not at midlength; the apicoventral setal lobes of segment X are distinctly capitate, curving ventrad in lateral view and mesad in dorsal view.
Male (in alcohol). Light brown. Spurs 044. Forewing membrane uniformly griseous with darker setae, without distinct pattern. Hind wing fork absent. Forewing length 6.0 mm, hind wing length 4.5 mm.
Male genitalia. Segment IX short; tergum slightly shorter than sternum ( Fig. 179); anterior margins shallowly rounded; apicolateral lobe on posterior margins blunt, subrectangular, located near base of coxopodites; posterior spine row continuous ( Fig. 179). Segment X very short, dorsum slightly convex in lateral view ( Fig. 179), not descending, slightly concave only at base of weakly pigmented area. Apicoventral setal lobes capi- tate, especially in lateral view ( Fig. 179); apices directed ventrad in lateral view ( Fig. 179); mesad in dorsal view ( Fig. 180). Setaless mesocaudal lobe strongly convex in dorsal view ( Fig. 180). Lateral setose areas forming pair of shallow setose warts located at base of apicoventral setal lobes. Suture pattern forming strongly pigmented transverse, vertical branches ( Fig. 179), and small, lightly sclerotised longitudinal branches ( Fig. 179); segment X membranous behind transverse sutures; posterior part of segment X strongly excising posterad and dorsad in lateral view ( Fig. 179). Coxopodites parallel-sided ( Fig. 179), slightly dilating basally and apically. Harpagones short, very slender, with mesad curving apex ( Fig. 181). Phallic apparatus ( Fig. 182) with long and high phallobase; phallotheca straight, narrowing before apex; endothecal processes nearly circular; phallotremal sclerites oval in lateral view; well sclerotised, ventral end not completely covered by endothecal processes.
Holotype male: CAMEROON: Ekona , at light, 22.iv.1938 [H. Buhr] ( ZMHB, in alcohol).
Distribution: Cameroon.
Etymology: from the name of the type locality.
