Cheumatopsyche chirapali Oláh & Johanson , new species
Fig. 108, 175–178
This species is similar to C. parafra , new species from which it is distinguished by the presence of light pattern on the brown forewing membranes. In addition, segment IX is shorter; the apices of the elongated apicoventral setal lobes turning mesad, almost touching each other in dorsal view. Both coxopodite apices are strongly dilated; and the phallotheca is constricted at mid-length.
Male. Body and wing membrane brown with light pubescence. Membrane of forewings with light pattern of 3 regularly elongated patches on costal margins, and 1 irregular patch at distal sections of cubital and anal veins. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum dark brown, with 5 warts of same dark colour. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Protibiae each with 2 spurs. Forewing length 6.5 mm, hind wing length 5 mm. Forewing crossvein m-cu and cu tangental. Hing wing fork I absent.
Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly, rather short; tergum almost as long as sternum ( Fig. 175); anterior margins of segment IX regularly and shallowly convex in lateral view, tergal parts less excised, flatter than sternal parts ( Fig. 175); apical lobe on posterolateral margins broadly triangular, short, located above base of coxopodites at mid-height of segment IX; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX continuous. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X deep. Segment X short, with apicoventral lobe subquadrangular in lateral view; narrowing in dorsal view ( Fig. 176); bilobed in dorsal view. Transverse sutures crossing segment at posterior half. Longitudinal sutures not visible ( Fig. 175). Setaless mesocaudal lobe forming slightly convex plate in dorsal view ( Fig. 176). Apicoventral setal lobes orienting posterad; apices weakly curving dorsad; slightly tapering in lateral view ( Fig. 175); strongly curving mesad ( Fig. 176); apices almost touching. Pair of lateral setose areas flat, forming rounded setose surfaces, located well beyond transverse sutures above apicoventral setal lobes, at margin of setaless mesocaudal lobe ( Fig. 175). Coxopodites extending well beyond apex of segment X, almost straight, apices dilating. Harpagones slender, curving dorsad, finger-like in lateral view ( Fig. 175); and slightly sigmoid in ventral view ( Fig. 177). Phallotheca ( Fig. 178) strongly constricted at mid-length; sclerotised endothecal process elongated ovoid; phallotremal sclerites forming broad plate.
Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Anosibe, 1955 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).
Distribution: Madagascar.
Etymology: from the elongated apicoventral lobes of segment X, long lobe, “chirapali” in Sanscrit.
