Material examined. Kuwait: 1 male, OUMNH. ZC. 2020.01.021, Qaruh Island , 28°49’00.53”N 48°46’30.25”E, depth 6–8 m, sand flat with sparse rubble, under dead Acropora plates, leg. S. De Grave, 29.ix.2019 [fcn KUW- 043] .

General distribution. Widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, with records from the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden ( Socotra Island), Arabian Gulf ( Kuwait, UAE), Madagascar, Micronesia, Japan, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Tonga, Samoa and some other localities (e.g., Banner & Banner 1973; Chace 1988; Anker 2001a; Anker & De Grave 2016).

Ecology. Lower intertidal and subtidal (exceptionally down to 70 m); coral reefs and associated habitats, including heavily degraded reefs and reef flats; under dead corals, in living and dead coral crevices, sometimes also under intertidal rocks and in tide-pools ( Miya & Miyake 1968; Chace 1988; Anker & De Grave 2016).

Remarks. Athanas parvus was previously reported from the Arabian Gulf based on material from the UAE ( De Grave 2007) and is now also recorded from Kuwait. Curiously, this usually common reef species has not yet been found on the Iranian side of the Arabian Gulf as it was not listed by Naderloo & Türkay (2012), although it is highly likely present there as well.
