3. Tychius herculeanus Reitter, 1902

Tychius herculeanus Reitter, 1902: 185 . Franz, 1942: 106. Caldara, 1990: 101.

Material examined. A single male specimen from “Musart [sic], Tien Shan” studied and designated as the lectotype of the species by Caldara (1990).

Redescription. Male and female (from Caldara 1990). Length 4.00– 4.40 mm. Integument reddish except for blackish prothorax and abdomen; on dorsum, covered with dense, overlapping, small, wide, subrectangular and lanceolate whitish and pale brown scales; on elytra, elongate scales mostly reddish brown and at sides partly whitish. Rostrum stout in both sexes (Rl/Pl male 0.82, female 0.85), in dorsal view with parallel sides, in lateral view regularly curved, of same width from base to apex. Antennal funicle 7-segmented. Eyes convex, moderately prominent. Pronotum transverse (Pw/Pl 1.23–1.26), with subparallel sides in basal half. Elytra subrectangular (El/ Ew 1.30–1.32), wider than pronotum (Ew/Pw 1.29–1.32), moderately convex. Femora, especially metafemora, toothed. Tibiae without sexual characters. Third tarsomere distinctly wider than second tarsomere. Claws with robust medial teeth, as long as half of claw. Male genitalia: body of penis robust, short, nearly parallel at sides, apex broad. Female genitalia: spermatheca with short ramus, distinct collum and long cornu; spiculum ventrale with arms close each other and parallel sided in basal 2/3 then slightly divergent.

Remarks and comparative notes. This species is easily distinguishable from the other species in China by the characters of the group. See photograph of the habitus and illustration of rostra and genitalia in Caldara (1990).
