Material examined. Holotype, male. China, Yunnan. Baoshan, Nankang, Gaoligong Nature Reserve , 24°49.729'N, 98°46.074'E, 2181 m, 11-V-2009, leg. Man-Man Wang [SM00887]. GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. The species is characterized by having a large coracoid dorsal lobe on gonostylus, dorsal mesial margin expanded, and two long flagellate setae on the inner side; gonocoxite with a small setose intercoxal lobe; tegmen slightly and smoothly curved, parameral apodeme continuously sclerotized forming a central strip on dorsal side; maxillary palps 3-segmented, basal segment with 1 seta.

Description (male). Color. Head, thorax and abdomen dark brown; antennae and hypopygium yellowishbrown; mesonotum brown, palps and legs pale brown; wings fumose.

Head ( Figs 12 View FIGURE 12 C, D). Eye bridge with 3 rows of facets. Maxillary palps 3-segmented, basal segment with 1 seta; 2nd segment with 8 setae; 3rd segment with 6 setae. Length/width index of 4th flagellomere: 3.73.

Thorax. Anterior pronotum with 4 setae, episternum 1 with 5 setae. Wings (partly broken). R1/R: 0.86. r-m, stM, M1 and M2 bare, CuA1 and CuA2 bare. Legs ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 E). Length of spur/width of foretibia 0.97. Length of femur/length of metatarsus: foreleg 1.30. Length of metatarsus/length of tibia: foreleg 0.62, hind leg 0.51. Length of hind tibia/length of thorax 1.26. Claws toothed.

Hypopygium ( Figs 12 View FIGURE 12 A, B). The gonocoxite as long as the gonostylus. Gonostylus densely setose on the apicoventral part, with the apical tooth arising from a large coracoid dorsal lobe, dorsal mesial margin expanded, two long flagellate setae on the inner side. Hypopygium with a small setose intercoxal lobe. Tegmen slightly and smoothly curved, parameral apodeme continuously sclerotized forming a central strip on dorsal side. Aedeagus relatively short. Sternite 10 with 1 seta on each half.

Distribution. China ( Yunnan, Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 ).

Remarks. The species is similar to M. rhynchophysa in sharing a large coracoid dorsal lobe on the gonostylus. But it differs in having a small setose intercoxal lobe and 3-segmented maxillary palps, while M. rhynchophysa bearing an oblong intercoxal lobe and 2-segmented maxillary palps. In addition, the parameral apodeme is continuously sclerotized forming a central strip on the dorsal side in the new species, while it is laterally sclerotized on the tegmen in M. rhynchophysa .

Etymology. This species is named after its similarity to M. rhynchophysa ( Yang, Zhang & Yang, 1993) .
