Scybalium fungiforme Schott & Endlicher (1832: 3) View in CoL
Type (lectotype, designated here):—[illustration] Schott & Endlicher (1832): t. II, figs. 1–34.
Nomenclatural notes:—In the protologue, Schott & Endlicher (1832), reporting the following type locality: “Habitat in sylvis primigeniis montium Serra d’Estrella Brasiliae, radicibus arborum parasiticum; lectum mense Decembri, 1820. (Schott.)”. Furthermore, the authors cited in the protologue one illustration “t. II, figs. 1–34”, which is consequently original material for the name (Art. 9.3 of the ICN). Referring to the type of S. fungiforme, Hansen 1980 wrote: “Schott sn December 1820, Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Sierra d’Estrella (holotype, W)”. According to Art. 9.9 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012, McNeill 2014), the Hansen’s use of the term holotype is an error correctable to lectotype. We were not able to trace the lectotype specimen in W, and according to the actual curator of the herbarium, this specimen is lost and no information that could confirm its past existence in this herbarium is available. According to Art. 9.12 of the ICN, we designate the original illustration in Schott & Endlicher (1832) “t. II, fig. 1–34” as the lectotype.
