4. P View in CoL . histrio group

Species: P. brevipennis , P. bannapensis sp. nov., P. histrio , P. malayensis , P. pangmapensis , P. proximus , P. pseudohistrio .

Characteristics: (1) Upper frons, vertex and median occipital sclerite yellow (upper frons black only in P. pangmapensis ); (2) scutum with 3 broad black longitudinal vittae; (3) wings hyaline; (4) R2+3 arising before or at crossvein R-M, usually about 1.5 times as long as Rs and touching R1 at costal margin, radial triangle (r2+3) only as high as half length of crossvein R-M, crossvein M-Cu short but distinct (cf. P. proximus : Figs 40–41 View FIGURES 34 – 41. 34 – 35 ); (5) M3 distinctly sinuate, postcubitus (CuP) well developed, pigmented; (6) typical species with spatulate abdomen; (7) all parts of male terminalia conspicuously asymmetrical, cerci often pointed apically, medial process at posterior margin of genital capsule absent, gonostylus with inner lobe or even tip, aedeagal complex usually with extended and rounded basal part, gonocoxal apodeme very short.

Remarks: The conspicuous asymmetry of all parts of the male terminalia repesents a distinct synapomorphy for all members of this groups. The scutum has a typical pattern (3 broad longitudinal vittae) which is similar to that of tricolor -group, only P. brevipennis is darkened only along the notopleura and the longitudinal vitae are quite absent in P. bannapensis sp. nov.. The abdomen is usually distinctly spatulate but rather spindle-shaped in P. bannapensis sp. nov., P. brevipennis , P. pangmapensis and at least some specimens of P. proximus .
