Homoneura (Minettioides) orientis (Hendel) View in CoL
( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 12–16 View FIGURES 12 – 16 )
Sapromyza orientis Hendel, 1908: 42 View in CoL (as new name for Sapromyza orientalis Kertész, 1900: 272 View in CoL , nec Sciomyza orientalis Wiedemann, 1830: 575 - both previously in Sapromyza View in CoL , currently in Homoneura View in CoL ). Type locality: Kankau, Formosa ( China: Taiwan). Sasakawa, 1992: 151.
Sapromyza orientalis Kertész, 1900: 272 View in CoL (junior secondary homonym of Sciomyza orientalis Wiedemann, 1830: 575 ). Sapromyza kerteszi Meijere, 1908a: 145 View in CoL (unjustified new name). Meijere 1908b: 331; Malloch, 1929: 50. Lauxania bioculata Meijere, 1914: 225 (syn.).
Diagnosis. Antennal 1st flagellomere slightly tinged brownish on apical 2/3; arista short plumose, with longest setulae slightly shorter than height of 1st flagellomere. Mesonotum with 1 ia, weak but distinctly longer than its surrounding setulae. Wing clear, without spots. Abdominal tergite 5 with a pair of black round lateral spots.
Redescription. MALE. Body length 2.9–3.0 mm, wing length 2.9–3.0 mm. FEMALE. Body length 3.3 mm, wing length 3.0 mm.
Head yellow. Frons longer than wide and parallel-sided, without brown stripes; ocellar triangle brownish; oc shorter than anterior or, anterior or longer than 1/2 length of posterior or; gena about 1/5 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere slightly tinged brownish on apical 2/3, 2.0 times longer than high; arista short plumose, black except for brownish base, with longest setulae slightly shorter than height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis yellow, with yellowish and blackish setulae; palpus yellow with blackish setulae.
Thorax yellow. Mesonotum slightly shining, without stripes; 0+3 dc (anterior dc clearly behind transverse scutal suture), acr in 8 rows; prsc shorter than anteriormost dc; 1 ia, weak but distinctly longer than surrounding setulae. Legs yellow. Fore femur with 4 strong pv and 7 pd, ctenidium with 10–11 short bristles; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 6 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) clear, without spots; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1+2) sections in proportion of 1.6 mm: 0.4 mm: 0.3 mm (4: 1: 0.75); r-m basad to middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M1 subequal in length; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/4 of penultimate. Halter yellow.
Abdomen yellow; tergite 5 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) with a pair of black round lateral spots, diameter of spots subequal to length of exposed part of tergite 5. Male genitalia ( Figs. 12–16 View FIGURES 12 – 16 ): protandrium semicircular, narrow with a setula beside spiracle; epandrium broad subapically in lateral view and with a pair of triangular subapical processes in posterior view; surstylus narrow triangular apically; hypandrium H–shaped; gonopod short conical with a short apical seta; aedeagus broad basally, constricted subapically and blunt round apically, with a pair of short subuliform inner processes; aedeagal apodeme distinctly longer than aedeagus.
Material examined. CHINA, Hainan Province: 2 3, 1 Ƥ, Ledong, Jianfengling National Nature Reserve, 800 m, 16. V. 2006, Hui Dong [18°43ʹ17ʺN 108°52ʹ45ʺE]; 1 3, Changjiang, Bawangling National Nature Reserve, Linchang, 1000 m, 26. V. 2007, Junhua Zhang [19°07ʹ16ʺN 109°05ʹ0 0ʺE].
Distribution. Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New to China (Hainan).
Remarks. The species is very similar to Homoneura (Minettioides) forcipata Kertész, 1913 from China ( Taiwan) in having the clear wing and a pair of black spots on abdominal tergite 5, but it can be separated from the latter by the mesonotum having 1 weak ia; the fore femur having 4 strong pv; the protandrium being semicircular, narrow and bridge–like; the epandrium having a pair of acuate subapical processes in ventral view; the aedeagus being curved outward apically. In H. (M.) forcipata , the mesonotum lacks ia; the fore femur has 5 strong pv; the protandrium is horseshoe–shaped; the epandrium lacks acuate subapical processes in ventral view; the aedeagus is decussated apically ( Kertész, 1913; Sasakawa, 1992).
