Meloë violaceus var. simplex A. Fleischer, 1890 in ESCHERICH (1890: 23).

Remark. ESCHERICH (1890) provided a short diagnosis of this taxon attributed to A. Fleischer. He considered Fleischer’s form of M. violaceus Marsham, 1802 to be similar to the case that he described in M. proscarabeus Linnaeus, 1758 as M. proscarabaeus var. simplicicornis Escherich, 1889 . WINKLER & MADER (1927) listed Fleischer’s variety as a female aberation under Meloe proscarabaeus . BOLOGNA (2008) listed ‘ simplicicornis ’ as a valid species of doubtful assignment, however the name ‘ simplex ’ is incorrectly omitted from the list of available names.
