Diagnosis. The forewing pattern of Loboschiza mediana ( Walker, 1866) is most similar to that of L. deloxantha (Turner, 1946) , but the forewing is slightly wider than that of L. deloxantha . The outer margin of the large yellowish patch reaches mid-length of the forewing in L. mediana but beyond mid-length of the forewing in L. deloxantha . The termen of L. mediana is rounder than that of L. deloxantha .
Redescription. Head ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6–10 ): Lower and upper frons yellow; vertex brown; labial palpus porrect, first segment brown, second segment dilated apically, brown except apical 1/3 yellow, third segment yellow. Antenna brown, scape brown mixed with yellow scales.
Thorax: Pronotal collar, tegulae, and mesonotum brown to dark brown, posterior crest indistinct; hindlegs with expanded hind tibia ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14–16 ), inner side covered with dense greyish brown scales, except brown scales at posterior 1/3, dorsobasal 1/2 with a group of long greyish scales, outer side covered with light greyish brown scales. Forewing subrectangular, wingspan 10.5–11.4 mm in male (n = 3) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–5 ), costal margin evenly curved; termen rather round and oblique, costal margin with well-developed small dark brown streaks, especially distinct on yellow patch, ground color brown to dark brown, with large yellow basal patch, extending from costa to dorsum, inner margin near wing base irregular, moderately curved inward, outer margin at middle of wing irregular, slightly curved outward; fringe scales brown to dark brown; underside light brown, with small yellowish grey spots on costa. Hindwing brown, slightly paler at base, costa with a group of long and narrow greyish white scales extending from near wing base to near mid-length of hindwing; underside light brown ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ).
Abdomen: Sternum I+II densely covered with small scales, except posteromedially with two connected narrow patches of dense long modified scales ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–20 ). Male genitalia ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 21–28 ) with tegumen subtriangular, with dense scale sockets laterally; uncus absent; socii small, subtriangular lobes, densely setose; gnathos composed of two lateral widened bands, moderately sclerotized basally, arising from mid-length of tegumen; vinculum moderately wide; juxta subtriangular; caulis rather long; anellus surrounding basal 1/6 of phallus; phallus long and slender, wide at base and slightly tapered to apex, slightly curved basally, with dense cornuti sockets; valva with large, elongate basal opening; sacculus with large, elongate, projecting lobe of dense, long and thickened spiniform setae ventromedially; neck widened, with parallel margins; cucullus subtriangular, densely setose, dorsal portion dome-shaped with rounded apex, ventral process subtriangular pointing ventrally, with a short strong spine at apex.
Distribution. India, Philippine Is., New Guinea, Solomon Is., and Thailand. New record to Thailand.
Remarks. Tospitis mediana Walker, 1866 was transferred to Loboschiza mediana ( Walker, 1866) by Horak (2006). Identification of Thai L. mediana specimens is based on comparison with previous descriptions ( Walker 1866, Pagenstecher 1900, Meyrick 1912, 1916) and figures of adult wing pattern and male genitalia in Clarke (1958).
