Diagnosis. Notomicrus meizon sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the large size (TL = 1.60 –1.70 mm) and the characters of aedeagus ( Fig. 1b, d View FIGURE 1 ).

Description. Holotype. Body outline, in dorsal view ( Fig. 1a View FIGURE 1 ) elongated oval, broader anteriorly and attenuated posteriorly (TL/MW = 2.10); in lateral view, dorsally weakly convex and ventrally flat.

Measurements. TL = 1.60 mm; MW = 0.75 mm; TL/MW = 2.10.

Color ( Fig. 1a View FIGURE 1 ). Head dorsally light brown and ventrally yellowish. Antennae yellowish. Pronotum yellowish. Elytra light brown with anterior margin near suture black. Metasternum and outer laminae of the metacoxae dark brown. Remaining of ventral surface yellowish.

Head. With fine microreticulation consisting of elongate cells in transverse direction. Antennae with apical antennomere elongate, length greater than total length of head, distally subserrate, antennomeres V–X expanded, antennomeres VI–IX longer than wide ( Fig. 3a View FIGURE 3 ). Maxillary palp with apical palpomere elongate, length greater than half of total length of palp, distally attenuate, apex rounded, emarginated at apex, with two small sensory fields ( Fig. 3g View FIGURE 3 ). Labial palp with apical palpomere elongate, expanded, length greater than twice the combined length of basal palpomeres, emarginated at apex, with two small sensory fields ( Fig. 3h View FIGURE 3 ).

Thorax. Pronotum with fine microreticulation consisting of isodiametric cells, except along anterior margin, which are elongate. Elytra with fine weakly impressed microreticulation consisting of isodiametric cells, increasingly elongate posteriorly; distal half and lateral margins evenly covered with scattered setate punctures ( Fig. 3k View FIGURE 3 ). Metasternum and noterid platform with impressed microreticulation consisting of oblong cells, increasingly elongate along suture. Noterid platform with lateral outline divergent posteriorly, with posterior margins oblique, apical lobes acutely rounded. Anterior protarsal claw longer than posterior one and longer than protarsomere V; in lateral view, wider at base than posterior one ( Fig. 3c View FIGURE 3 ). Anterior mesotarsal claw slightly longer than posterior one and longer than mesotarsomere V; in lateral view, slightly wider at base than posterior one ( Fig. 3d View FIGURE 3 ).

Aedeagus ( Fig. 1b – f View FIGURE 1 ). Median lobe, in lateral aspect, slightly curved, sharply bent before apex, with small expansion on dorsal margin, apex truncate, expanded. Left lateral lobe broad and elongated, with short setae along dorsal margin. Right lateral lobe wide, subquadrate.

Female. Protarsal and mesotarsal claws similar, without any meaningful modification.

Variation. Measurements. TL = 1.60–1.70 mm, ♂ = 1.60–1.65 mm, ♀ = 1.60–1.70 mm; MW = 0.75–0.80 mm; TL/MW = 2.00–2.25.

Some specimens present lighter colored head, elytra, metasternum and outer laminae of the metacoxae.

Comparative notes. For the relative large size, Notomicrus meizon sp. nov. is comparable with N. traili and N. reticulatus Zimmermann, 1921 , known from Argentina and Uruguay, although N. meizon sp. nov. is even larger (TL = 1.60 –1.70 mm to both N. traili and N. reticulatus TL = 1.50 –1.60 mm, Sharp 1882; Young 1978; Zimmermann 1921). Externally, N. meizon sp. nov. can be distinguished from N. traili by the lighter colored head, elytra ( Fig. 1a View FIGURE 1 ), metasternum and outer laminae of metacoxae and from N. reticulatus by the less impressed microreticulation on pronotum and elytra ( Young 1978). Internally, N. meizon sp. nov. can be distinguished from N. traili (Fig. 44 of Manuel 2015) by the shape of median lobe of aedeagus ( Fig. 1b, d View FIGURE 1 ), whereas genitals of N. reticulatus are currently unknown.

Etymology. The specific name is the Greek adjective “ meizon ”, meaning larger. This is in reference to its generally larger size than that of the other Notomicrus species.

Geographic distribution. So far N. meizon sp. nov. is known only from the Brazilian state of Amazonas.
