Figs 45, 46, 206, 246

Description. Holotype FEMALE. Fore wing 12.8 mm.

Head. Ventral tooth of mandible approximately as long as dorsal tooth. Clypeus apical area delimited by smooth border; clypeal margin with two teeth. Antenna with 26 flagellomeres; white band starting at flagellomere V; 6 flagellomeres at least 50% white.

Mesosoma . Mesopleuron with scarce pilosity, 90% of cuticular surface visible; striate. Subalar prominence elongate, narrow, not keeled. Sulcus between sternaulus and scrobe weak but distinct. Posterior transverse carina of mesosternum absent. Lower metapleuron densely striate-rugulose. Propodeum: area in front of anterior transverse carina alutaceous, medially without longitudinal ridges. Propodeal apophyses developed as weak scale-shaped structures, continuous with distinct posterior transverse carina. Area between transverse carinae obliquely striate; area behind posterior transverse carina transversely striate, except radially around petiolar foramen. Fore wing in Fig. 206; vein 3-Cu 1.48 length of 4-Cu. Hind wing in Fig. 246.

Metasoma. Postpetiole dorsally, at level of spiracles, flat; dorsolateral carina absent; median dorsal carina absent; petiolar spiracles in dorsal view not prominent. Ovipositor 1.35 length of hind tibia. Apex of lower valve with 13 teeth.

Color. Multicolored in brown, reddish brown, black, orange, yellow, pale yellow, and white, but mostly from laterally and on apical half of metasoma brownish yellow (221,155,046), to dorsally and on basal half of metasoma dark reddish brown (141,070,000). Lateral pattern as in Fig. 45. Orbital band widely interrupted at 1 h, almost imperceptibly interrupted at 7 h; width on temple about 0.2 of interocular distance, width decreasing downwards up to almost interrupted at level of torulus; gena ventrally entirely pale yellow, width of yellow decreasing upwards until disappearing at 1 h. Clypeus and supraclypeal area yellow, except brown and black apical area; clypeal sulcus laterally brown, except black around tentorial pit. Supra-antennal area distinctly reddish centrally. Mesosoma with complex color pattern, as follows. Pronotum collar with wide continuous yellow stripe from side to side; dorsomedial margin black; dorso-lateral margin with long narrow yellowish stripe; latero-dorsally reddish brown, progressively changing to latero-ventrally brownish yellow. Propleuron anteriorly and medially dark brown, changing to apically light brownish yellow. Mesoscutum medio-longitudinally black, centrally, a level of tegula, with distinct yellow spot, laterally reddish brown; mesonotum otherwise dark reddish brown (141,070,000). Tegula white. Axillar carina, scutellum and postscutellum pale yellow (255,255,204). Axillary through of meso and metanotum black. Propodeum as in Figs 45 & 46, dorsally bright reddish brown (251,090,023). Fore and mid femora lateral half dark brown with areas of reddish brown, fore femur mesal half yellow, mid femur mesal half orange brown. Hind femur reddish (200,060,047), apex darkest. All tibiae opaque yellow (255,245,000), fore tibia lightest, hind tibia darkest. Fore and mid tarsi with t1 on basal half yellowish, remaining of tarsi dark brown. Hind tarsus from t1 basally yellow as respective tibia to t4 apically pale yellow, t5 dark brown. Metasoma dorsally progressively changing from T1 reddish dark brown (180,051,051) to T6 brownish yellow (255,203,063); T7–8 slightly darker than T6. Postpetiole apical margin medially with dominate yellowish spot.

Morphological variation. Fore wing 8.1–15.0 mm. Ovipositor 1.34–1.44 length of hind tibia. Black areas more evident, particularly on the head, on specimens from Brazil, but mostly or entirely replaced by orange brown on specimens from Argentina. Females and males from Ilha do Mel (southern Brazil) the least colorful, lacking most yellow marks observed for other specimens, including mesonotum centrally without yellow spot, or spot faint; also with all femora brownish yellow as for most of mesosoma. White band of antenna normally starting at flagellomere IV or V, with 7 articles; on paratype from Fenix (southern Brazil), starting at flagellomere VI, with 3 articles. Orbital band often clearly interrupted at malar space; sometimes thin but not interrupted at 1 h; in one case interrupted at 3 h; on specimens from Ilha do Mel widely interrupted behind, from 12–2 h or 12–3 h. Meso- and metapleuron from unicolorous to sometimes covered with some yellow spots, including speculum from anteriorly to entirely yellow. Mesepimeron black on specimen from São Carlos (southeastern Brazil). Propodeum centrally sometimes with yellow dot. Coxae colors and patterns highly variable, from entirely light orange to covered with varied patterns of dark orange, dark brown and yellow. Femora about 20% lighter or darker than observed on the holotype. Postpetiole apical margin medially sometimes with distinct yellow dot. Apex of lower valve of ovipositor with 13–16 teeth .

MALE. Similar to female, including morphological variation, except as follows. Antenna with 29–32 flagellomeres; white band starting at flagellomere VII–IX, with 7–9 articles. Orbital band briefly interrupted at level of torulus; on specimens from Argentina, narrow but not interrupted at 1 h; on specimens from Ilha do Mel ( Brazil) widely interrupted behind, from 12–3 h. Fore and mid coxae of smallest specimen pale yellow. Mid femur in one specimen and hind femur on both specimens dark brown, except basal end reddish. Smallest specimen with overall coloration much lighter than for female, and with T2–6 apical margin yellow.

Comments. Very similar to D. campygeus from which it can be separated by having propodeum centrally without or only with traces of yellow ( Fig. 46) (vs. with longitudinal yellow stripe); postpetiole flat (vs. weakly but distinctly concave); dorsolateral carina absent (vs. weak but developed from spiracle to apex); mesopleuron short pilosity covering 90% of cuticular surface (vs. 99% of cuticular surface). Most differences between these species are subtle and need special attention. The supra-antennal area centrally almost always has a characteristically lighter coloration, reddish, reddish brown or light orange, which is usually distinguishable even on specimens with light colored head. The variability of color and color patterns is very high, but mostly in details. Overall, all specimens are reasonably similar to Fig. 45. To the unaided eye, specimens look mostly brownish yellow (221,155,046), with darker and lighter areas, plus a few yellow spots.
