Digonocryptus banius Aguiar et Ramos , sp. nov.

Figs 31, 32, 148, 161, 181, 221

Description. Holotype FEMALE. Fore wing 13.6 mm.

Head. Ventral tooth of mandible approximately as long as dorsal tooth, even if more massive in size. Clypeus apical area delimited by smooth border; clypeal margin with one tooth. Antenna beyond flagellomere VI missing; white band starting at flagellomere IV.

Mesosoma . Mesopleuron with scarce short hairs, 99% of cuticular surface visible; finely and delicately striaterugose ( Fig. 148). Subalar prominence narrow and more or less elongate, not keeled ( Fig. 148). Sulcus between sternaulus and scrobe very weak, visible with tangent illumination only. Posterior transverse carina of mesosternum absent. Lower metapleuron finely striate-rugulose. Propodeum: area in front of anterior transverse carina distinctly alutaceous, medially without longitudinal ridges ( Fig. 161). Propodeal apophyses present as conspicuous scale-like structures, oblong in cross-section. Posterior transverse carina absent; propodeum behind anterior transverse carina striate-rugose, obliquely anteriorly, irregularly centrally. Fore wing in Fig. 181; vein 3-Cu 1.90 length of 4-Cu. Hind wing in Fig. 221.

Metasoma. Postpetiole dorso-anteriorly flat; dorsolateral and median dorsal carinae absent; petiolar spiracles in dorsal view somewhat prominent, protruding from T1. Ovipositor 1.24 length of hind tibia. Apex of lower valve with 13 teeth.

Color. Black with orange coxae and yellowish marks. Lateral pattern as in Fig. 31. Orbital band interrupted at malar space only; width reduced, linear, but ventrally extending for eye margin to basis of mandible. Supraclypeal area with yellow spot at base of each torulus. Labrum yellow. Head otherwise black. Mesosoma dorsally black, except as follows. Pronotum dorsally at anterior margin with two close yellow spots, scutellum on antero-lateral angle with small yellow spot on each side. Wing membrane faintly amber, centrally with fuscous transverse area. Propodeum as in Figs 31–32. Mid and hind coxa orange brown. Fore femur and mid femur and tibia dark brown with reddish tone; fore tibia dorsally dark brown, ventrally light brown; hind femur and tibia dark brown, except basal end of hind tibia yellowish; fore and mid t1 on about basal 0.15 and apical 0.15, and entire t2–5, dark brown, fore and mid t1 centrally pale yellow; hind t1 basal 0.2, t2 apical 0.2 and entire t3–5 dark brown, t1apical 0.8 and t2 basal 0.8 whitish. Metasoma dorsally dark brown, except T1 mostly orange brown with postpetiole apex medially dark brown.

MALE. Unknown.

Comments. Readily isolated from most Digonocryptus species by having fore wing with a fuscous spot ( Fig. 181); only D. meridensis and D. pitchus have this same feature. Other unique features are the coxae and T1 mostly orange contrasting with body almost entirely black. In this particular specimen (holotype) all the soft, now dried internal structures are apparently detached from the T7 wall, exceptionally generating an apparent, but false, brown external coloration for T7.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♀ “ Banos , Ecuador // V..1937// W.Clarke-MacIntyre”; “ Rio Blanco // 1900m ”; “ Digonocryptus // sp 5” ( AEIC). Right wings slide mounted; missing parts: right antenna beyond flagellomere II, left one beyond flagellomere VI, right fore leg entirely and left t5.

Distribution. Ecuador.
