Digonocryptus caraguatensis Aguiar et Ramos , sp. nov.

Figs 51, 52, 127, 170, 171

Description. Holotype FEMALE. Fore wing 14.7 mm.

Head. Ventral tooth of mandible slightly longer than dorsal tooth. Clypeus apical area delimited by sharp carina, medially emarginated ( Fig. 127); clypeal margin with two small teeth. Antenna with 26 flagellomeres; white band starting on flagellomere VI; 5 flagellomeres at least 50% white.

Mesosoma . Mesopleuron finely pilose, about 99% of cuticular surface visible, distinctly strigate. Subalar prominence narrow and elongate, not keeled. Sulcus between sternaulus and scrobe very weak. Posterior transverse carina of mesosternum absent. Lower metapleuron finely transversely striate or rugulose, pilose as mesopleuron. Propodeum pilose, hairs longer than on metapleuron; area in front of anterior transverse carina mostly smooth and polished. Propodeal apophyses absent, represented by weak widening of posterior transverse carina, which is complete, bell-shaped, as strong as anterior transverse carina. Area between transverse carinae obliquely to concentrically and regularly strigate, continuing on area behind posterior carina, except radially around petiolar foramen. Fore wing vein 3-Cu 1.54 length of 4-Cu.

Metasoma. Postpetiole medio-basally, at level of spiracles, weakly but distinctly concave; dorsolateral and median dorsal carina absent; petiolar spiracles in dorsal view not prominent. T2 mostly colliculate ( Fig. 170), T3 more weakly so, T4–7 weakly alutaceous; T8 basally with wide and deep depression, also folded down medio-longitudinally, generating distinct crease ( Fig. 171). Ovipositor 1.63 length of hind tibia. Apex of lower valve with 15 teeth.

Color. Light and brightly colored, reddish orange (255,102,000) with black and yellowish marks on legs and metasoma. Lateral pattern as in Fig. 51 (paratype from Antonina, Brazil). Orbital band restricted to 7–9 h, spot at 10 h, linear yellow mark at 3–4 h; head color slightly more light than mesosoma. Mesosoma , including coxae basally, reddish orange; coxae apically with black pattern; fore trochanters mostly yellowish, with brown spot; mid and hind trochanters mostly or entirely black; femora laterally reddish brown, mesally dark brown; fore tibia dilated part, mid tibia dorsal face and partially laterally, mid basitarsomere between basal 0.3 and apical 0.1, hind tibia basal 0.2, hind basitarsomere except basal 0.2 and hind tarsomeres 2–3, pale yellow (255,255,165), more intensely yellow on hind tarsus; hind tibia apical 0.8 from basally dark brown to apically black. Propodeum as in Figs 51–52 (paratype from Antonina, Brazil), colored as remaining of mesosoma. Metasoma main color shaded orange (214,128,043), postpetiole apical half black, with two yellow spots latero-apically, otherwise colored as propodeum; T2–7 apical margin dark brown with wide yellow stripe tapering medially until widely interrupted; T8 dark brown with reddish tint.

Morphological variation. Fore wing 13.6–14.8 mm. Ovipositor 1.55–1.63 length of hind tibia. Antenna with 26–27 flagellomeres; sulcus between sternaulus and scrobe sometimes sharp; propodeum sometimes with glabrous stripe medio-longitudinally, posterior transverse carina medially sometimes stout and less curved; area in front of anterior carina sometimes laterally weakly punctuate, pilose; postpetiole apical depression from weak and oval to relatively deep and elongate; apex of lower valve of ovipositor with 13–15 teeth. Color: body sometimes dark reddish brown (143,048,000) to dark brown (102,051,051); flagellomere V apical half sometimes pale yellow, white band with 5–7 flagellomeres; orbital band fragments sometimes inconspicuous; pronotum along anterior margin sometimes with wide yellow stripe; subalar impression centrally sometimes with yellow spot; T8 latero-ventrally sometimes with large yellow spot. On the Peruíbe ( Brazil) specimen, T7 with an extra, independent, narrow but complete yellow stripe along apical margin.

MALE. Similar to female, although generally more weakly sculptured, so that areas with weak sculpturing on female become smooth and polished on male. Color differs as follows: antenna sometimes basally light brown; pronotum with wide yellowish stripe along anterior margin; supraclypeal area mostly, and supra-antenal area along eye margin, yellowish; fore and mid trochanters pale yellow; postpetiole apical margin and T3 subapically with wide transverse yellow stripe; T2 and T4–6 brown, T7 yellowish brown.

Comments. Similar to Digonocryptus teleborus from which it can be distinguished by having postpetiole apical margin with two small yellow spots, on each side (vs. with no trace of yellow); propodeal apophyses absent (vs. present as large, triangular scale-like structures); dorsolateral and median dorsal carina absent (vs. distinct and strong); petiolar spiracles in dorsal view not prominent (vs. prominent); and clypeal margin with two small teeth (vs. medially raised but not strengthened into a tooth).
