Type:— THAILAND. Loei: Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary, Nam Kai Ranger Station , in a mixed deciduous forest, on an unidentified tree, 335 m, 17º06’37.9” N, 101º38’28.2” E; 22 June 2010, V GoogleMaps . Poengsungnoen VP 00673 ( RAMK 012869 About RAMK !, holotype) .

Thallus corticolous, whitish gray to grayish green, continuous, smooth to uneven, thinly corticate, dull. Lirellae prominent, with thick complete thalline margin, very short to short, up to 3 mm long, straight, simple, labia convergent, entire, not visible from outside, disc concealed, (cleistomma- morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium strongly inspersed (type A); ascospores 1/ascus, hyaline, densely muriform, halonate, with 25–40 transverse septa and 2–10 longitudinal septa, 80–150 × 25–40 μm.

Chemistry: norstictic acid (major), connorstictic acid (minor) (anal. K. Kalb).

Distribution and habitat:— Graphis subinsulana is rather common in North-East Thailand, Loei province where it was collected in dry dipterocarp forests, lower montane scrubs, lower montane rainforests and mixt deciduous forests between 330 and 925 m elevation.

Remarks:—This species is similar to G. novopalmicola , but the latter has subserpentina -morph lirellae.
