Sorex vir G. M. Allen, 1914 . Proc. N. Engl. Zool. Club, 5: 52.
TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., N.E. Yakutia, Nizhne Kolymsk (near mouth of Kolyma River) .
DISTRIBUTION: Siberia, west to Ural, perhaps south to the Altai; N. and E. Mongolia.
COMMENT: If roboratus and vir are conspecific, vir is apparently a junior synonym; see Yudin, 1971, [Insectivorous Mammals of Siberia], Nauka, Novosibirsk, p. 105; but see also Corbet, 1978:22.
