DISTRIBUTION: Honshu, Shikoku, Hokkaido ( Japan); Kunashir Isl., Sakhalin ( U.S. S.R.).

COMMENT: Included in caecutiens by Corbet, 1978:20, but Imaizumi, 1970, The Handbook of Japanese Land Mammals, Vol. 1, treated shinto as a separate species.
