Bathione humboldtensis ( Pardo, Guisado and Acuña, 1998) View in CoL
Remarks
Bathione humboldtensis View in CoL parasitizes two commercial squat lobster species, Cervimunida johni View in CoL and Pleuroncodes monodon View in CoL . The prevalence varies temporally and spatially, as Pardo et al. (1998) reported infestations of 5.8% (n = 1530) in C. johni View in CoL and 0.4% (n = 1440) in P. monodon View in CoL from Coquimbo in north-central Chile. However, González and Acuña (2004) subsequently recorded a much higher prevalence from the same locality, with 13.6% (n = 1214) for C. johni View in CoL and 18.2% (n = 1214) for P. monodon View in CoL , while reporting only 6.8% (n = 221) for C. johni View in CoL and 0.6% (n = 463) for P. monodon View in CoL in Huasco and Caldera, respectively. Both hosts showed a negative effect on growth and reproduction from bopyrid infestation ( González and Acuña 2004).
