Discussion: Name often accredited to Bonaparte, 1838. Reviewed by Corbet (1988), Frost et al. (1991), and Gould (1995). Bannikova et al. (2002) reviewed the phylogenetic relations of most extant genera using the fingerprinting method. Includes Tupaiodontinae Butler, 1988 and Brachyericinae Butler, 1948 as extinct subfamilies ( Lopatin and Zazhigin, 2003).
