Type Locality: Brazil, Bahia, Rio Mucuri, near Morro d'Arara; for clarification see Avila-Pires (1965:9).
Vernacular Names: Proboscis Bat.
Synonyms: Rhynchonycteris lineata Temminck 1838 ; Rhynchonycteris priscus G. M. Allen 1914 ; Rhynchonycteris rivalis Spix 1823 ; Rhynchonycteris saxatilis Spix 1823 ; Rhynchonycteris villosa Gervais 1855 .
Distribution: E Oaxaca and C Veracruz ( Mexico) to C and E Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, French Guiana, Guyana, and Surinam; Trinidad.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
